Muzaffarpur, The fragrant aroma of mutton (meat) cooked in an earthen pot (matka) emanating from Champaran in Bihar is making taste lovers across the country crazy about it. This is the reason that now Handi Mutton shops are being seen in different cities as well. There is no dearth of Handi Mutton lovers in Muzaffarpur as well. The Sadhna Champaran Meat House located on Butler Road on the way to Chakkar Maidan here has become a favorite haunt of mutton lovers. Akash Singh Rajput, the operator of the shop, says that the people who come here usually eat 250 grams to half a kilo of meat at a time. Whereas, there are many who eat more than one kilo of handi mutton alone.

In a conversation with News18 Local, Akash said that Handi mutton is sold at the rate of Rs 1,000 per kg at his shop. Many times it also happens that some customer eats a whole handi alone. However, generally people like to eat 250 grams of handi meat. About one kilo of Champaran meat is prepared in one handi. He says that on normal days, about 40 to 50 kg of handi mutton is sold from morning to evening.

Handi mutton is made from healthy Khasi meat

Akash also told that every shopkeeper making handi mutton makes his own special masala, which is kept secret. When this secret masala boils in an earthen pot, its fragrance makes people crazy. He himself also prepares a special masala.

Akash told that he gets healthy chickens cut in front of him every day and prepares Handi Mutton from its meat. To make meat, mustard oil is first heated in a pot, then mixed with onions and spices, mutton is cooked for a long time on a low flame of coal.
